Hiking in cardó
From the top of the Cardó and Boix mountain ranges we can enjoy impressive views of the Ebro River and even the Ebro Delta. But you don’t have to climb all the way to the top of the mountain to enjoy this unusual place, since in the Vall de Cardó we will find a magnificent landscape, different from what we are used to on the shores of the Mediterranean.
The Cardó area is a place with a lot of history and many stories. Its microclimate, the wealth of aquifers and its inaccessibility led a group of monks from the order of the Discalced Carmelites to settle there. Over the years, they built a monastery and a group of 14 hermitages, each placed in a special corner of the valley, making each of them a unique space. These same hermitages later served as a healing and recreation area, as the monastery was reconverted into an important spa. Today, we can visit most of the hermitages which, although they are very degraded by the passage of time, still retain much of their spirituality and charm.
