A route that will take us to explore the mountainous area of Móra d’Ebre and help us understand some of the lost trades related to the mountains such as charcoal burners, lime burners, or snowmakers.
We will start at the hermitage of Sant Jeroni, where we will leave the car. Nevertheless, driving up, we will already be able to see an example of mountain-related work. As we arrive at the hermitage, we pass by a large gypsum kiln and a quarry where they extracted the raw material to feed it.
From Sant Jeroni, we will ascend gently through a ravine, in the shade of a grove where, from time to time, beautiful dry stone walls are encountered. Further up, we will find an old charcoal burner.
Following a ridge, we will head towards the first peak, the highest in the area: La Picossa, where we can see a refuge-trench, a reminder of the civil war.
We also have the option to climb to the top of l’Estel, with beautiful views of Móra d’Ebre and its surroundings.
The route ends at the same point where we started, the hermitage of Sant Jeroni. In this area, there is a picnic area with barbecues.
